Mallow Credit Union has an exciting new opportunity for a Business Development Officer (BDO) to be part of an ambitious, forward looking and strategic thinking credit union. Mallow Credit Union is a modern, member focused credit union, dedicated to serving its membership in an efficient and professional manner while providing best in class products and services.

This role will report into the Chief Financial Officer and must be self-driven, motivated and proactive, working largely within the North Cork area, and be responsible for maximising revenues for the credit union.

The BDO will develop strategic initiatives to enable the credit union to position its offerings to align to the explicit or latent needs of these members & potential members across the branch network and on digital/phone channels.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with Management and the wider team to understand, contribute to and ensure the success of Mallow Credit Union’s Strategic Plan.
  • Work closely with staff to develop membership and lending opportunities within the branches and achieve branch lending targets.
  • Develop the online and phone presence of the credit union, including the targeted development of the online offering.
  • Engage with members, potential businesses & community leaders with regard to strategic lending opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain a database for each target market and utilise data analytical tools to leverage the opportunities provided by the data.
  • Achieve targets for business development in the common bond area.
  • To develop member solution strategies that combine the best available products & services.
  • Work closely with the relevant teams to ensure efficient launch of new or evolving products and constantly evaluate and adjust offerings to ensure the balance of member solution and risk conscious revenue generation are optimised on an ongoing basis, remain competitively priced and commercially sustainable.
  • Evaluate the competitive landscape to ensure the products and services being offered are competitive, reasonably priced and offer value to your membership base.
  • Maximise the sponsorships and community funding that the credit union makes by ensuring credit union presence at events and information evenings to achieve 2-way advocacy from all groups.
  • Contribute to the creation, development, design and implementation of a cohesive, targeted annual marketing and member engagement plan and budget in line with the credit union’s strategic plan, which can be rolled out across the common bond areas and relevant member engagement channels they are responsible for.
  • To identify product training needs and deliver relevant business development training in association with the Training Dept.
  • Support the generation of innovative solutions for members.
  • Manage all marketing campaigns and social media presence.
  • The BDO will be required to develop relationships with third party providers & groups to offer the best quality and valued services. In so far as these relationships relate to member solutions and innovation, you will be responsible for developing, managing, and sustaining these relationships in the best interest of the credit union and its’ members.
  • Pro-active telephone, face to face or online meetings to generate new prospects, leads and lead follow-up.
  • Work closely with the lending team to ensure targets are achieved.
  • Develop member engagement opportunities from information nights, to seminars, to financial planning information sessions to ensure the credit union remains connected to its members, especially as they transition from physical to digital engagements.
  • To be able to demonstrate an initiative taking skill set with effective response actions.

The right candidate should have the following:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a results-driven business development role preferably within financial services or similar environment.
  • Self-starter with creative ideas, who has enthusiasm and drive.
  • Results focused, proactive with the ability to adapt to new situations.
  • Business development and proven sales experience, preferably in a financial services environment.
  • Knowledge of financial services products and services especially in the areas of personal banking and mortgages is a definite plus.
  • Ability to assess financial services market developments, devise and interpret member surveys and develop informed product and services solutions.
  • A member-centric focus ensuring that a first-class service is delivered to members.
  • Excellent report writing and presentation skills.
  • IT skills, with strong database analysis and Microsoft Office capabilities.
  • Excellent administrative, organisational & business support skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and work calmly under pressure.
  • Experience in dealing with external providers and representative bodies etc. and use these efficiently to stay up to date with market developments and to provide cost effective valued solutions to members.
  • Ability to work co-operatively with other credit unions to share experiences, leverage expertise and drive common goals.
  • Ensure compliance with all legislation, regulations and guidance including Data Protection and employment law.
